WHAT IS AN OSTEOPATH?
By Ali Simpson
HERES ALI TO EXPLAIN:
As I explain in the video, Osteopathy is a form of hands-on manual therapy which facilitates healing by focusing on all aspects of the body.
In Australia, Osteopaths are government registered allied health practitioners who complete 4-5 years of university training!
Osteopaths mainly work in private practices but may also work in a range of health settings such as medical/health clinics, rehabilitation clinics, aged care facilities and professional sports clubs.
WHAT CAN OSTEOPATHS TREAT?
Osteopaths can treat a variety of complaints across the whole body since they focus on how your skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, circulatory system, connective tissue, and internal organs function as a whole-body unit.
SOME CONDITIONS INCLUDE:
Neck pain & Headaches
Back Pain & Disc Injuries
Repetitive Muscle Strains
Tendonitis and Bursitis
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Shoulder, Elbow & Wrist Complaints
Hip, Knee & Ankle Complaints
Joint Pain & Arthritis
WHAT DOES AN OSTEOPATH DO?
1. Your Osteopath will take a detailed history about your problem or pain.
2. They may ask your about your previous medical history.
3. Your Osteopath will conduct an examination of your body’s movements and to evaluate the presenting issue.
4. After the examination your Osteopath will explain the diagnosis and proposed treatment and management plan.
WHAT TREATMENTS DO OSTEOPATHS PERFORM?
Osteopaths provide a broad range of hands on treatments including:
Massage, stretching, joint movements/manipulations
Osteopaths may also prescribe exercises for you to do at home or work.
We also like to give advice and recommendations on posture, diet, stress-management and lifestyle factors to help best manage your issue.
WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PHYSIOTHERAPY AND OSTEOPATHY?
Whilst each profession has unique origins, both Osteopathy and Physiotherapy aim to improve a person’s pain, function and wellbeing.
This is something that we pride ourselves on here at Corio Bay Sports Treatment Clinic Colac:
“Our team will help our community reach and maintain optimal health and wellbeing”.
